UV Index Difference - Summer vs. Now

Q: Why is the UV index around 3 on a 80 degree sunny day in November, but the UV index is 10 during the summer when the sky and temperature are the same?
A: The intensity of UV radiation is a function of the sun's angle to the Earth because certain gases in the atmosphere block UV radiation. The higher the sun is in the sky, which is maximized during the summer, the least amount of atmosphere it has to travel through. The sun angle is low now and the extra atmosphere it has to travel through restricts the UV radiation.
Nice hearing from you. I appreciate the question..
