See Spot (that would be me). See Spot being a 2 year old altered male Dalmatian mix. See Spot being a big, gentle boy who loves getting lots of exercise…daily walks or runs. See Spot run. Run, Spot, run! You see, I love to run and play and exude LOTS of energy. I need to have a house with a yard and a strong owner. I get along with other female dogs (no males, please) and children in their teens. I do know many of my commands, but would benefit from continued training. I am a sweet, friendly dog who can bring a lot color to your life. See Spot. See Spot as part of your family.

Spare the Air Alert - Sunday 1/18/08

The Bay Area Air District has issued a Winter Spare the Air Alert for Sunday, January 18, which bans wood burning both indoors and outdoors through noon Monday.

Air quality in the Bay Area is forecast to be unhealthy. It is illegal for Bay Area residents and businesses to burn wood and manufactured firelogs in fireplaces, wood stoves and inserts, pellet stoves, and outdoor fire-pits. This wood-burning ban will be in effect for Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, southern Sonoma and southwestern Solano Counties.

"Although the Bay Area is experiencing spring-like weather, particulate pollution has reached unhealthy levels," said Jack Broadbent, executive officer of the Air District. "Particulate pollution is associated with a multitude of serious health risks, and is particularly harmful to children, the elderly, and those with respiratory problems."

San Francisco SPCA Grand Opening

San Francisco SPCA will be hosting a public open house on Sat. Jan 31 from 10am-2pm for the Grand Opening of the new Leanne B. Roberts Animal Care Center.

Our veterinary hospital, spay/neuter clinic, shelter medicine, feral cat and foster programs moved into the new center (right behind our adoption center) in early December. We are now ready to “officially” celebrate The SF/SPCA’s step into the future with this state of the art facility, which is going to allow us to help even more homeless and owned dogs and cats throughout our community. The public is also invited to the Dedication Ceremony, which is Friday, Jan 30 from 11am-1pm.

Perfect Pet - Friday, 1/16/09

I am an 8 year old, 37 pound, black and tan, neutered male Australian Cattle dog mix. I’m a great guy, who enjoys getting out and about.

I’m an affectionate sweetheart who adores people. In fact, I prefer a home where people are always around, or aren’t away for too long. It would be really cool if I could go to work with my new people. The trainers at The SF/SPCA can give you some tips on alone time training. Sometimes I can get a bit excited when I see other dogs on leash, which causes me to bark a bit, but really all I want to do is meet them. I’m smart too and love to work my obedience skills.  I’ve got it all!
