Remember the hot temperatures for this past weekend we talked about Friday?  They came to fruition Sunday.  The following cities either tied or set a new record high for April 19.

Record Highs Possible This Weekend

High pressure moves over California and settles into the great basin this weekend producing an extremely warm offshore flow.  This is the perfect set-up to threaten record high temperatures around the Bay.

Tuesday's Wind Gusts

Our wind machine was running in overdrive Tuesday.  That was by far the fastest winds speeds we've experienced in months.

One criterion for thunderstorms to be considered severe is a 58 mph winds.  At least three cities reported wind gusts reached that threshold.

Giants 2009 Season Home Opener Today

Our San Francisco Giants open the 2009 season at home today with a game against the Wild Card winning Milwaukee Brewers.

 

First pitch is supposed to be 1:05 PM.  Looks like our light rain will continue right up to 1 PM at AT&T Park, possibly delaying the start.  A dry window opens for a few hours before the scattered showers develop late this afternoon.  Drizzle is still possible during this window but should be light enough for play to begin.

You'll want to prepare for the damp conditions and chilly temperatures in the middle to upper 50s.

FYI - Rain has never cancelled a Giants home opener. 

Big Changes Tuesday...

We will have two chances for wet weather tomorrow. Our next wet weather maker contains two parts which bring two different types of rain to your Tuesday.

A cold front brings rain during the morning hours, especially from 8 AM to Noon. The rain cooled air and mostly cloudy sky drops our afternoon highs by 15 - 20 degrees compared to Monday.

A trailing area of low pressure and afternoon sunshine scatter storms throughout the afternoon and evening hours. The storms could produce small hail. With the loss of daytime heating, the air will stabilizing and the showers will fall apart by midnight.

I'm hoping a half-inch of rain falls around the Bay with nearly double this amount if you are caught under one of the storms.
