Sunday's Record Heat

Share

An unusually strong area of high pressure brought nearly stagnant air (especially for the Bay) and record high temperatures Sunday.

Sunday / Old Record / Location

    93°      93° (1997)    San Francisco Airport

    91°      86° (1978)    Oakland Airport

  103°      99° (1997)    Livermore

The exceptionally warm mid-level temperatures made this high pressure a record setter.  Air sinks toward the ground in areas of high pressure.  This brought the warm air to the surface.  As air descends, it heats and looses moisture which helps it heat more.
