A persistent dip in the jet stream over the eastern half of the nation has led to wellbelow normal temperatures in many areas, Chicago included. The average high in the Windy city is just shy of 70° so far this July, well below the normal of 83°. The coolest July on record was 1967 when the average high for the month was 76.5°. The spell of comfortable temperatures has not only made outdoor activities more enjoyable for many residents, but it has also provided relief to bank accounts throughout the area. According to some estimates, residents have saved an average of $50 from their electric bills since the beginning of June compared to 2008.
