Nevada Cancels Cloud-Seeding Program

Share

According to the Western Regional Climate Center, Nevada is the driest state with only 9.5 inches of rain per year.  Nevada's winter cloud seeding program provides an additional 5 to 15 percent more snow, enough to supply 130,000 households with water per year.

The state of Nevada cancelled its cloud-seeding project for the upcoming winter snow-season (2009-2010) due to budget cuts.  The nation's driest state will loose 65,000 acre-feet of water, equal to 21.2 billion gallons.  An acre-foot of water is about 326,000 gallons, enough water to cover 1 acre a foot deep in water.
