Sinking air from high pressure to our west stopped the cooling sea breeze earlier today. Without the free air conditioning, our stagnant air warms significantly today and tomorrow afternoon. Our afternoon highs reach above average levels for the first time in nearly 10 days in most neighborhoods.
In the "it could be worse department", the heat index in Rockford, Il reached 131° yesterday. The 177.8° temperature you see pictured above is from inside a white Camry with a light beige interior. Granted, the thermometer is sitting in the sun, but that is still dangerous, if not, deadly heat.
